Today, we met all our lovely second graders at BDM. What a great class they were! We went around and talked to each group of students and found out where they were in social studies overall. They were a very smart bunch and very cooperative. A lot of them were very eager to learn and to be taught by us, I think they really enjoyed us being there. It was great to be in the classroom and start to get to know the children we will be teaching for the first time. My group asked the students about what they have learned in social studies so far, if they knew anything about colonies, what their favorite subjects are and how they feel about school. It was hard to get a feel for what they knew about social studies but it is good to know we made the pre test and can see what the children responded to. I can't wait to start teaching all these boys and girls !

I could not agree with you more. The second grade class are energetic and eager children who are excited to learn social studies! I enjoyed meeting them as well. When we asked the students what they knew about social studies and what they learned in the past their only responses was things to do with the pilgrims. I am excited for us to teach the students new exciting topics to help change that!! :)
ReplyDeleteI love how enthusiastic you are about teaching second graders social studies. I enjoyed meeting the students as well and teaching them. You are your group did such a great job teaching students about the colonies and explorers. I am sure that they have gained a new appreciation of social studies! You also brought up a good point about the pre-test. I wonder if we will ever get the results back about how students did. I wish that we got the results back before the first group taught so we knew what material students still needed help with. On one last positive note, happy teaching!
